Family means everything to me. That family can include the people in my community. When i was a kid my mom would constantly be patronizing local small-businesses over the big box stores and let us know “You always need to support local!”

I never really knew what that meant until much later in life. I saw how our way of life tipped this way and that when a new chain moved in and a small business went out. I worked at Apple Retail for almost a decade, helping small business ideas become a customer’s reality. I truly could not have taken the plunge without the encouragement and support of my best friend April. She truly believed i could keep from crashing and it made me feel that nothing could stop us...

*Global Pandemic happens* Luxury items don’t seem like that big of an essential item by comparison. Paper money didn’t seem to make sense. So we paused production of our charcuterie tools and made Victory Garden Boxes. They were exchanged for other goods in a “Porch Bartering” system that allowed for contactless trade and making some great new acquaintances! We saw how if we came together, we could make anything happen. We realized there was talent all around us. We were all raw and resourceful and comrades. A little piece of us hoped it would never end.
